Ingredients and Fragrance
Each product in the Greenscents range is certified organic by The Soil Association and contains more than 70% certified organic ingredients. Other ingredients are sourced from a restricted natural palette that are all approved by The Soil Association.
At Greenscents, we never use the following ingredients:
- SLES/SLS/ALS/ALES
- Phosphates
- Enzymes
- Chlorine bleaches
- Palm oil
- Parabens
- GM ingredients
Organic aloe vera
The moisturising and healing properties of aloe vera are important in many Greenscents products. Our organic aloe vera is sourced direct from the grower ensuring fair trade and it’s certified by The Soil Association. Aloe vera has no known side effects for topical use, which makes it suitable for those with sensitive skin.
Organic cocoa butter
Cocoa butter is a perfect addition to Greenscents products thanks to its many beneficial qualities. Skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis can be treated when cocoa butter is applied to the skin. Cocoa butter has natural moisture-retaining abilities which make it suitable for both skin care and as a laundry conditioner.
Organic eucalyptus globulus essential oil
The refreshing aroma of this essential oil is an important ingredient in the Greenscents ‘herbal’ fragrance blend. The strong antiseptic and antimicrobial properties of Eucalyptus globulus oil naturally boost the cleaning power of our products.
Organic jojoba oil
This versatile oil is a clear, golden liquid at room temperature and is easy to work with. As well as its moisturising qualities for the skin, jojoba oil is an effective fungicide, which is useful when cleaning bathrooms or kitchens where mould may be an issue.
Organic lavandin essential oil
The calming aromas of lavender create some of our most popular fragrances. Like all essential oils, lavendin oil is a complex mix of naturally occurring phytochemicals with special properties that can have antimicrobial & anti-inflammatory effects. Our organic lavandin oil is grown in Spain and is sourced directly from the grower so we can trace this ingredient throughout its life cycle.
Organic olive oil
This traditional Mediterranean oil has a long history and has been used as a food and in skin care. The Egyptians used olive oil as a cleanser, moisturiser and antibacterial agent and these practices still continue today. We use organic olive oil from olives grown in Spain, which we add to our creamy polish.
Organic orange essential oil
This zesty, uplifting oil is a key component of the ‘citrus’ blend of Greenscents fragrances and is a natural degreasing agent. Sweet orange oil is a proven antimicrobial agent helping to neutralise e.coli & salmonella and is naturally antiseptic and anti-inflammatory too. We source our organic orange oil direct from the grower in Italy.
Although Limonene is an important element in our fragrances, some people can develop allergies to this component of orange oil. If you’re unsure about this, please get in touch with us to clarify and we’ll let you know if it’s safe for you to use.
Organic peppermint essential oil
Peppermint is a hybrid mint — a cross between water mint and spearmint. In addition to its wonderfully refreshing fragrance, peppermint oil has powerful antibacterial properties, which make it ideal for our natural cleaning & laundry products. As an added bonus, peppermint acts as a natural pest deterrent, too!
Organic rosemary essential oil
Rosemary has a clean, refreshing, aromatic smell and has been used as an astringent since Roman times. It also has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties which are a really useful addition to Greenscents products.
Citric acid
Citric acid is a mild organic acid that occurs naturally in citrus fruits. At Greenscents, we use citric acid to remove limescale and improve the effectiveness of some soaps in our products.
Organic cider vinegar
Organic cider vinegar is a great disinfectant and deodoriser as well as having many health benefits. At Greenscents, organic cider vinegar is an important component of our loo cleaner, where the vinegar not only kills germs but helps to dissolve limescale as well.
Soapwort extract
Saponaria officinalis is a common perennial plant from the carnation family. The scientific name is derived from the latin word for “soap,” which refers to its utility in cleaning. When added to water, soapwort extract forms a creamy lather and is an excellent gentle cleanser.
Sodium cocoamphoacetate
Sodium cocoamphoacetate is a biodegradable, mild amphoteric surfactant made from the fatty acids in coconut oil. This gentle surfactant encourages water to mix with oil-enabling dirt to be rinsed away easily. Due to its mildness, it is frequently used in products designed for those with extreme sensitivities, including children, babies and allergy sufferers.
Cetearyl glucoside and cetearyl alcohol
Cetearyl glucoside is an emulsifier derived from sugar. It creates a rich, creamy texture and has a buttery feel. Cetearyl alcohol is not a fermented alcohol but a fatty alcohol made from fatty acids. It is easily biodegradable and has a superb safety record. Cetearyl glucoside and cetearyl alcohol create the wonderful creamy base in our polish.
Organic glycerin
Produced from organic coconuts, organic glycerin is used in small quantities in some of our products, because of its moisturising properties when combined with other ingredients. Glycerine is very unlikely to cause any harmful side effects, so it is a perfect addition to our ingredients.
Cocoamidopropyl betaine (CAPB)
A surfactant & emulsifier extracted from coconut oil, this ingredient is used in many personal care products. Although there has been some press reports suggesting that CAPB may be an allergen, recent research has suggested that any allergic or irritant reactions are caused by mixing CAPB with chemicals that are not present in Greenscents products.
Xanthan gum
We use small amounts of xanthan gum as a thickener and stabiliser in our products. The xanthan gum we use in Greenscents products is gluten-free, GMO-free and is naturally derived from maize and soya beans.
Lauryl glucoside
This ingredient is formed by blending a mixture of alcohols with some simple sugars that come from raw vegetables and fruits. We use lauryl glucoside in our products, as it is a great way to makes soaps foam up when cleaning.
Coco glucoside
This is a surfactant, foaming agent, conditioner and emulsifier derived from coconut oil and fruit sugar. It has been listed as having a low irritation score and is used in our Greenscents laundry liquid, washing up liquid, multi-surface sprays, loo cleaner and floor soap.
Lactic acid
Our vegan lactic acid is derived from sugar and is an effective descaler, soap-scum remover and a registered antibacterial agent. We use this type of lactic acid in some of our products to regulate acidity.
Sucrose stearate and sucrose distearate
These ingredients are derived from sugar and make fantastic skin moisturising agents and surfactants. They are used in our Greenscents creamy polish to provide additional conditioning.
Potassium sorbate
We use potassium sorbate in some of our products as a preservative. It is used in many food and personal care products to inhibit the development of bacteria and micro-organisms. Potassium sorbate improves the shelf life and stability of products.
Greenscents only produces environmentally-friendly, sustainable products.

I absolutely love your products, especially the polish. It’s amazing. I will definitely be ordering more. We make products out of wood for a living and will definitely be recommending your polish to our customers.
Steph Mcilveen, -
I have atopic eczema and have been suffering a flare since February. I have tried numerous cleaning products that claim to be sensitive skin friendly, including the simplest of cleaning hacks, such as vinegar, however all have left me with sore, rash-y skin, other than Greenscents! I am delighted. Thank you so much for producing this fabulous product that has left my home gleaming and my skin happy!
